England will enter the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027 with a point to prove after a disappointing campaign in the previous edition.
The 2019 world champions endured a difficult 2023 World Cup, but four years later the team has a different look and a new leader. Under the energetic leadership of Harry Brook, England will head to Southern Africa hoping to once again challenge for the ODI World Cup trophy.
With an aggressive batting unit, experienced international players and encouraging recent white-ball form, England will enter the tournament as one of the teams capable of mounting a serious title challenge.
Their World Cup journey will begin against Bangladesh on 8 October 2027 in Windhoek.
England Will Look to Forget Their Disappointing 2023 World Cup
England entered the 2023 ODI World Cup in India as the defending champions, but their title defence went badly wrong.
They won only three of their nine matches and suffered six defeats, eventually finishing seventh in the 10-team standings.
England lost their opening match against New Zealand before beating Bangladesh. What followed was a damaging run of five consecutive defeats against Afghanistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, India and Australia.
They finally recovered to beat the Netherlands and Pakistan in their last two matches, but by then their semi-final hopes were already over.
The 2027 edition now gives England an opportunity to leave that campaign behind and start again under Harry Brook.
Harry Brook to Lead England at World Cup 2027
Harry Brook will be one of the central figures in England’s World Cup campaign.
The energetic batter has established himself as England’s white-ball captain and will be tasked with leading a talented side through a challenging tournament.
England have been placed in Group B alongside New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Qualifier B.
Their first match will be against Bangladesh on 8 October in Windhoek.
England then face Sri Lanka at the same venue on 13 October before a major contest against co-hosts South Africa in Gqeberha on 16 October.
Their fourth match will be against Qualifier B in Harare on 20 October.
England will finish their Group Stage campaign against New Zealand on 23 October in Gqeberha.

England’s Potential Super 7 Schedule
For the schedule below, we are assuming England qualify for the Super 7. England are pre-seeded as AB4, so these dates and venues are already allocated. Opponents may change depending on qualification.
England Super 7 Schedule
| Date | Match | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| 27 October 2027 | 🇿🇦 South Africa vs England 🏴 | Tshwane |
| 30 October 2027 | 🇵🇰 Pakistan vs England 🏴 | Victoria Falls |
| 2 November 2027 | 🇱🇰 Sri Lanka vs England 🏴 | Cape Town |
| 5 November 2027 | 🇦🇺 Australia vs England 🏴 | Durban |
| 8 November 2027 | 🇳🇿 New Zealand vs England 🏴 | Durban |
| 11 November 2027 | 🇮🇳 India vs England 🏴 | Gqeberha |
If all the current pre-seeded teams qualify, England’s Super 7 campaign would include heavyweight contests against South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand and India.
The ICC has pre-seeded India as A1, Australia as A2, Pakistan as A3, England as AB4, New Zealand as B1, South Africa as B2 and Sri Lanka as B3. If a non-seeded team replaces one of these teams in qualification, it will assume that team’s allocated Super 7 position.
World Cup 2027 Semi-Finals and Final Dates
After every team has played six Super 7 matches, the top four sides in the standings will advance to the semi-finals.
| Stage | Date | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| 🏏 Semi-Final 1 | 17 November 2027 | Cape Town |
| 🏏 Semi-Final 2 | 18 November 2027 | Tshwane |
| 🏆 Final | 21 November 2027 | Johannesburg |
If England qualify for the Super 7, finish among the top four and win their semi-final, Harry Brook’s team will play the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027 Final on 21 November in Johannesburg.
England’s potential journey could therefore begin against Bangladesh on 8 October in Windhoek and finish with the biggest match of the tournament on 21 November in Johannesburg.
After the disappointment of 2023, England will arrive at the 2027 World Cup with a new captain and another opportunity to fight for the trophy. Under Brook’s energetic leadership, their challenge will be to turn their attacking style and recent white-ball momentum into consistent performances on the World Cup stage.
If England reach the Final, they will play a maximum of 13 matches — five in the Group Stage, six in the Super 7, one semi-final and the Final.
