Telugu Desam Party (TDP) State president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao has said the focus will be on developing Gajuwaka as a key centre for the IT, industrial and tourism sectors.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao, along with District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore and other revenue officials, conducted a field-level inspection of nearly 800 acres at Yarada on Saturday to assess its potential for IT, knowledge- and technology-driven industries and tourism development.
The MLA reviewed the extent and status of the land, existing infrastructure and development potential of the Yarada hill region. He directed officials to examine the feasibility of developing the scenic location as a hub for IT companies, Global Capability Centres (GCCs), startups and other knowledge- and technology-driven enterprises.
“The expansion of the IT sector in the area could generate substantial employment and livelihood opportunities for local youth,” he said.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao said a bridge connecting Sagaradurga Temple at Yarada, across the canal, with Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in One Town would improve connectivity to Yarada. The proposed bridge could enable people to reach the main city from Yarada within 15 to 20 minutes, besides improving transport connectivity for IT professionals and local residents, he said.
Improved connectivity would provide further impetus to IT and industrial development in Yarada as well as beach and spiritual tourism in the region, he said.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the coalition government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, was working to position Andhra Pradesh as an investment, industry and technology-friendly destination.
Referring to the efforts of IT Minister Nara Lokesh to attract investments in the IT, electronics and technology sectors, he said the opportunities available in Gajuwaka should be effectively leveraged. Development of an IT hub at Yarada would provide further impetus to Visakhapatnam’s economic growth and create employment opportunities for local youth, he said.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao directed officials to prepare proposals after undertaking a comprehensive assessment of infrastructure, connectivity and other requirements for the integrated development of the IT and tourism sectors.
