Australia A Expose India’s IPL Stars Again, Gaikwad and Sai Sudharsan Fail as Rajat Patidar Fights Alone

India A’s star-studded batting lineup has disappointed once again against Australia A in the second unofficial ODI. Despite having several established IPL performers, including Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal and Kumar Kushagra, the Indian batting unit has failed to deliver when the team needed them the most.

After suffering a humiliating 125-run defeat in the first unofficial ODI, India A were expected to make a strong comeback in the second match. However, the story remained almost the same.

Chasing a challenging target of 276 runs, India A were struggling at 181 for 9 after 40 overs overs at the time of writing. Once again, Rajat Patidar was the only major positive for the Indian team, scoring a fighting 67 off 82 balls.

Australia A had earlier posted 275 runs, with Sam Konstas scoring 67 and Josh Philippe contributing 58.

Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal Disappoint Again

Sai Sudharsan entered this series with plenty of expectations, but the left-handed batter has failed to provide the starts India A needed in both matches.

In the first unofficial ODI, Sudharsan managed just 13 runs off 29 balls. His struggles continued in the second match, where he was dismissed for only 1 run off 6 deliveries.

Devdutt Padikkal has also endured a disappointing series so far.

After getting dismissed for a six-ball duck in the opening match, Padikkal managed only 1 run off 10 balls in the second ODI.

For two players who have regularly impressed in domestic cricket and the IPL, these back-to-back failures have raised questions about their performances against Australia A’s bowling attack.

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad Fails to Lead From the Front

Perhaps the biggest disappointment for India A has been the performance of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Gaikwad came into this series with international experience and was expected to play a major role in India’s batting lineup.

However, he has failed to live up to those expectations.

In the first unofficial ODI, the India A captain scored just 15 runs off 30 balls. His second innings was equally disappointing, as he managed only 12 runs off 5 deliveries.

India A lost their first three wickets for just 30 runs in the second ODI, leaving the middle order under enormous pressure.

With Gaikwad, Sudharsan and Padikkal failing in consecutive matches, India A have struggled to build a solid foundation at the top.

Rajat Patidar Stands Alone With Back-to-Back Half-Centuries

While India’s other established batters have struggled, Rajat Patidar has been the only consistent performer in the series.

The right-handed batter scored 53 runs off 51 balls in the first unofficial ODI when India A were bowled out for just 149 while chasing 275.

Patidar continued his impressive form in the second match, producing another fighting innings of 67 runs off 82 balls.

Coming to the crease after India’s top-order collapse, Patidar tried to rebuild the innings and keep his team in the contest.

However, the biggest problem was the lack of support from the other end. With wickets falling regularly, Patidar was forced to take responsibility for keeping the chase alive.

His back-to-back half-centuries have been the biggest positive for India A, but individual performances cannot compensate for the repeated failures of the batting unit.

India’s Batting Failures Raise Serious Questions

India A have several players who have already established themselves in the IPL and are considered strong contenders for future opportunities in the senior Indian team.

However, their performances against Australia A have been disappointing.

Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal have failed to provide a solid start, while captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been unable to take responsibility in the middle order.

Kumar Kushagra has also failed to make the impact India needed during the second ODI.

The concern is not just about individual failures but the manner in which the entire batting lineup has struggled in consecutive matches.

Despite Patidar’s two half-centuries, India A have been unable to build the partnerships needed to challenge Australia A.

If India A want to compete against strong opposition, their established batters must start taking responsibility rather than leaving the entire burden on one player.

For now, Rajat Patidar remains the standout performer in a disappointing batting display from India A against Australia A.

Batting performances in the first two unofficial ODIs

Player 1st ODI 2nd ODI
Sai Sudharsan 13 (29) 1 (6)
Devdutt Padikkal 0 (6) 1 (10)
Ruturaj Gaikwad 15 (30) 12 (5)
Rajat Patidar 53 (51) 67 (82)
