Sahibzada Farhan has set a new record for the most runs scored by a batter in a three-match T20I series. The Pakistan opener accumulated 238 runs across the three T20Is against Sri Lanka, surpassing Abhishek Sharma‘s previous record of 229 runs, which the Indian left-hander had set against Afghanistan earlier in 2026.
Farhan achieved the milestone during the third and final T20I of the series, played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 13, 2026. He scored 76 off 47 balls in that match, taking his series aggregate beyond Sharma’s mark. Despite his effort, Pakistan finished on 168/8 in their 20 overs and Sri Lanka chased the target down with 17 deliveries remaining, winning by 8 wickets to claim the third T20I.
Pakistan, however, had already secured the series 2-1, having won the first match on October 9 by 4 wickets and the second on October 11 by 82 runs. Farhan was named Player of the Tournament for his consistent batting throughout the series. It was also his first T20I series as Pakistan captain.
How did Farhan build his record-breaking tally?
Farhan contributed with three consecutive half-centuries across the series. He opened with 89 off 53 balls in the first T20I on October 9, followed by 73 off 44 balls in the second match on October 11. His 76 off 47 balls in the third T20I on October 13 took his series total to 238, making him the highest run-scorer in a three-match T20I series.
The record places Farhan ahead of several prominent names in the all-time list. Colin Munro of New Zealand holds third place with 223 runs against West Indies in the 2023-24 period. Australia’s David Warner scored 217 runs against Sri Lanka in 2019, while Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai accumulated 204 runs against Ireland in the same year. Farhan’s aggregate of 238 now stands as the benchmark for any batter across a three-match T20I series, regardless of opposition or venue.
How did Sri Lanka win the third T20I despite Farhan’s innings?
Sri Lanka chased down Pakistan’s total of 168/8 with considerable ease in the third T20I at Rawalpindi on October 13. Kusal Mendis led the chase with an unbeaten 87, providing Sri Lanka with the platform they needed from the top of the order. Kamindu Mendis contributed a supporting 40 not out as the two batters put the match beyond Pakistan’s reach.
Sri Lanka reached the target with 17 deliveries to spare, winning by 8 wickets. The result meant the series ended 2-1 in Pakistan’s favour, but Sri Lanka’s performance in the final match ensured they did not leave empty-handed. Farhan’s record aggregate, however, remained the defining story of the series.
