Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke was pre-emptively detained from outside the residence where he was staying in Delhi on Friday (October 16, 2026) while he was leaving to participate in the proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga‘ (wave the tricolour) protest at Connaught Place, the group’s spokesperson said.
All India Students’ Association (AISA) President Neha Bora and other protesters were also detained by the Delhi Police as they gathered near Mandi House circle and started marching towards Connaught Place with the tricolour. Police personnel tried to circle them as they try to move forward.

Meanwhile, a group of protestors led by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) were stopped at Janpath-Tolstoy Marg, which leads to Jantar Mantar.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Police personnel visited Mr. Dipke and served him a notice directing him to refrain from any action that could prejudice the rights of citizens, traders, commuters, patients and others.

The police action comes amid heightened security arrangements in the national capital ahead of the proposed protest.
The call for the protest march was made after CJP co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were remanded to five days’ judicial custody on Wednesday (October 14, 2026) allegedly for trespassing Jantar Mantar.
However, the New Delhi Municipal Council has said Central Park will remain closed to the public on Friday and Saturday (October 16-17) for administrative reasons, while the Delhi Police have stepped up security in the area.
