HYDERABAD
Congress hit back at BRS MLA T. Harish Rao’s criticism of the government on the Tummidihatti project with Government Whip and Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham and Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy accusing Mr. Harish Rao of spreading misinformation to undermine the government’s efforts to revive the Pranahita-Chevella project.
Addressing a press conference at the CLP Media Centre on Tuesday, along with MLA Bathula Lakshma Reddy, Mr. Veeresham described the outcome of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s discussions as a significant achievement for the State.
“Mr. Harish Rao is unable to digest that Mr. Revanth Reddy will get the credit, and this will also expose how Kaleshwaram’s money was wasted. KLIP was designed for corruption and irregularities rather than for the interests of farmers,” he alleged, arguing that a gravity-based water supply from Tummidihatti could have provided irrigation benefits at a lower cost.
Separately, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy countered Mr. Harish Rao’s remarks on water levels at Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages, accusing BRS of misleading people by claiming that 20,000 cusecs of water was flowing from Medigadda towards Andhra Pradesh.
He said that the collapse of a portion of the Medigadda barrage during the BRS regime was a fact that could not be ignored. He asserted that water could not be lifted from Medigadda either earlier or now, because of the condition of the barrage.
The MP accused Mr. Harish Rao, who had served as Irrigation Minister during the BRS government, of turning Kaleshwaram into a liability. He said the BRS leadership became angry whenever questions were raised about the project.
Meanwhile, MLC Addanki Dayakar, at a separate press conference, urged Mr. Harish Rao to indulge in politics during the elections and not on a day-to-day basis. “As a former Irrigation Minister, you can share your experience with Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy,” he said.
