While my favorite way to use an iPhone is without a case or screen protector, I’m actually enjoying both on the iPhone 17 Pro and can recommend them. They are cheap enough to try without committing for a year or more.
Five years ago, Apple introduced Ceramic Shield glass on the iPhone screen. It touted four times better drop performance with the promise of fewer broken iPhone screens.
I haven’t broken an iPhone screen yet, but I consistently get two or three deep scratches after a year of use.
of this year Ceramic shield 2 The front cover promises three times better scratch resistance. I’m still worried about those deep scratches and want to avoid the possibility for now.

Apple also says that the front panel now has improved anti-glare to reduce reflections, but the difference is nowhere near what the nano texture on the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro offers.
Make your iPhone 17 Pro screen more matte
For these reasons, I am using a product that I tried and liked several years ago. it’s Mothca matte glass screen protector.

The product is not perfect. I would much prefer a nano textured iPhone without the slight rainbow effect and gloss drop.
Still, I recommend giving these a try if you’re curious about what a matte screen looks like on an iPhone, especially at $9 or $14 for one single OR DUAL pack. The product feels more premium than its price would suggest.
A minimal case for just-in-case situations
Then there’s the matter of the iPhone case. I don’t want to spend a lot of money on one since I don’t plan on using it every day.

I usually put on a case before an activity like kayaking or mounting my iPhone on my motorcycle handlebars. I am too worried about shredding the orange aluminum finish from the sharp corners to the camera bump.
I’d probably just go with the clear Apple case for my casual use, but I don’t like it not very clear design for the Pro version this year. If I were an everyday casual user, I’d probably try Apple’s new TechWoven option, but none of the colors appeal to me yet.
I love the black, but I think the combination with the cosmic orange is a bit too Halloween-themed for year-round use. Instead, I decided that something more gray would pair nicely with the orange and create a sort of futuristic space suit look.
I am very pleased with the opportunity that I came across in a retail store a few days ago.

it’s a Spigen case called Thin Fit which comes in black, metallic, or abyss green. I’m using the gray version, and it fits the look I envisioned.

It’s priced at $39.99 from Spigen, but Amazon LISTS same case for $34.99.

I noticed that many cheaper cases do not include MagSafe, which can limit its effectiveness battery packs and magnetic mounts.

The Spigen Thin Fit includes both MagSafe and a capacitive camera control cover instead of just a cutout.

I like that this case covers the full “range” of the camera as this is an area that concerns me with durability.

It also creates a cool “orange circles” look that looks a lot like the Digital Crown on the space black Apple Watch Ultra.
Cosmic Orange is also visible around the button cover, not just on the bottom port, creating the gray with orange accent look I wanted.

Another benefit is that it does NO show the orange aluminum border around the screen. The border is fine when it’s just part of the phone without the case, but I can see it being distracting when only a thin orange border appears between a dark case and the dark screen.

Two low-cost accessory recommendations for the iPhone 17 Pro
of Mothca screensaver it will save you from deep scratches, and the matte texture is great if you like anti-glare screens. of Spigen Thin Fit Case it has a metallic look and a smooth feel that doesn’t add much bulk.
