Indie App Spotlight: ‘Kiosk 27’ Makes Your iPhone Camera Feel Like Film – 9to5Mac

Date:

Welcome to The indie app spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the indie app world. If you’re a developer and want your app featured, get it in contact.

iPhone cameras have come a long way over the years, but if you find yourself craving a classier, filmy look versus today’s computer photography, Kiosk 27 it can be a suitable entertainment for you.

Main points

First and foremost, Kiosk 27 uses sensor-RAW processing. It’s not just a filter placed on top of your normal camera output. This gives it a very real look. The developer has over 20 years of experience in analog photography, adding realism to everything.

It also offers all the features you would expect from a camera app, such as self-timer, flash and focus lock. On top of that, there’s a few things to enhance the movie experience, including a date stamp, a fog effect, and the ability to adjust the look of your movie — right down to grain and bloom.

Just like you would experience with film, the app first shoots a negative photo and then turns it into a positive photo on the device. Also, like film, you have a limited roll of film – 27 shots. Of course, everything is still digital, so you can go beyond that, but it’s a nice limitation that keeps you mindful of your shots. I personally love this level of focus – and it’s part of why I love shooting film in the first place.

Finally, Kiosk 27 it also offers a home screen widget so you can keep track of your current movie. In my testing, I really like how the photos look, so you should give it a try! Honestly, the only thing I’d like to see is Camera Control support – at least for app launch.

Download the app

Kiosk 27 is available at App Store for $12.99. There are no ads, in-app purchases or subscriptions once you buy it – it’s just a one-time purchase. You’ll need an iPhone with iOS 18.6 or later.
