Apple releasing iOS 26.4 RC to developers and public beta testers today, setting the stage for an official release later this month.
Apple has also shared it official release notes for iOS 26.4, confirming that the update improves keyboard accuracy when typing quickly on iPhone.
iOS 26.4: iPhone keyboard improvements
iOS 26.4 specifically focuses on fixing a bug where characters on the keyboard looked like they were touched but weren’t actually entered. Those missing characters then affected how Apple’s autocorrect was able to predict what you actually meant to type.
or thread on Reddit from last month is full of complaints from iPhone users affected by this bug. Again, this mostly happens when you’re typing fast.
Apple actually quietly introduced this keyboard change in an earlier iOS 26.4 beta, and users already have noticed an improvement. iOS 26.4 will likely roll out to everyone later this month, at which point we’ll have a better idea of what people think of the keyboard improvements.
The change in iOS 26.4 is not related to a viral video from last year, which appeared to show how the iOS keyboard is “broken”. In that video, the user does not have AutoCorrect enabled and is using the QuickPath (or swipe-to-type) feature. What is shown in that video is actually the expected behavior, as keyboard animations are intentionally hidden when using QuickType.
