The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the POCSO case against ‘Gem Granites’ Veeramani is likely to file its chargesheet before the Special Court for POCSO cases next week, police sources said.
The case was initially registered in October 2025 following a complaint from a child rights activist who received a pen drive from an unidentified person containing a video purportedly showing Veeramani sexually assaulting a minor girl. Police had subsequently filed a closure report, citing difficulties in identifying the girl. The Special POCSO Court, however, rejected the closure report and ordered further investigation.
Subsequently, the case was reinvestigated and the police arrested Veeramani, 84 and his abettors – Shanthi, 60 and her husband Mahendra Simhan, 63. One Ganesh who was an assistant for 23 years with Gem Granites was also arrested. Police identified the victim in the video and more than victims came forward to lodge their complaints.
The Special Investigation Team was constituted under Additional Commissioner P.C.Thenmozhi on September 24 to conduct further investigation into the case and related matters. As part of the probe, the SIT recorded the survivors’ statement before a judicial magistrate and collected statements from her parents besides other documents and material relevant to the case. The SIT is now completing the remaining procedural formalities before filing the chargesheet before the Special POCSO Court, sources added.
