Shreyas Iyer fined ₹12 Lakh for slow over-rate

However, PBKS won the match, but captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate in their IPL 2026 opener against the Titans. PBKS took 19.1 overs to finish the chase, which went slightly beyond the required over-rate set by the IPL.

Since the team failed to meet the timeline, the match officials imposed the standard penalty on the captain. According to the IPL’s Code of Conduct (Article 2.22), if a team breaches the minimum over-rate rule for the first time in a season, the captain has to pay a fine. Since this was PBKS’s first slow over-rate offense, Iyer was fined ₹12 lakh.
