The Punjab Kings (PBKS) are currently taking on the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 17th match of the ongoing IPL 2026 on Saturday, April 11, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
Punjab Kings wear Black Armbands to show respect for the Yamuna boat accident
The players of Punjab Kings stepped onto the field against Sunrisers Hyderabad with black armbands. It was the gesture of showing solidarity with the families affected by the tragic incident in Vrindavan.
The tragic accident happened near Keshi Ghat along the Yamuna River on April 10 when a boat carrying around 25 to 30 people suddenly lost balance and flipped into the water. The incident turned into a deadly disaster after the board collided with a floating pontoon drum left behind.
Most of the passengers were pilgrims and tourists from Punjab, especially from Ludhiana and Muktsar. It is being said that at least 11 lives have been lost so far, including men and women, while several others are still missing.
A massive rescue operation was launched immediately under the supervision of the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, local police, and army units from Mathura. It is being said that around 18 people have been rescued in this operation, but search operations are still going on as authorities try to find those who are still missing.
