The ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) has crossed its halfway mark as Match Number 22 was played on April 13 in the 44-match league. Because of the fuel crisis, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi announced that PSL 2026 would be without any spectators on the ground.
Naqvi made the announcement ahead of the tournament. After playing the 22nd match of the league, the scenario did not change; empty stadiums remain. Will the board allow visitors in the remaining part of the league? Media personnel asked the PCB head on the ground.
Mohsin Naqvi declared that PSL 2026 would be without any crowd in the galleries
Ahead of the tournament, Mohsin Naqvi, through a press conference, declared that as long as the fuel crisis remains a serious matter, they will not allow crowds during the PSL 2026 matches.
“Looking at all of this and after discussions with security agencies, we decided that the PSL would continue as per the original schedule. But we can’t ask people to restrict their movements and then have 30,000 people in stadiums for PSL games every day,” Naqvi told the media.
“We decided that as long as this crisis is ongoing, we will not have crowds at matches. This was a difficult decision, but it needed to be made. The opening ceremony will also be cancelled,” he added.

Not only Pakistan, but multiple nations across the globe have also been dealing with the fuel crisis, while the government of India tackled the situation with appropriate steps and did not ask the citizens to limit their movements.
Mohsin Naqvi has had different views. He claimed that because of the fuel crisis, the citizens of India are struggling a lot in their daily lives.
“Our stance is different. There are long lines at the petrol pumps. There is a shortage of fuel there. Thank God, you don’t have it in your country. And the second thing is that those who reorganize themselves in this difficult time, it is always easy for them,” Mohsin Naqvi said to the media.
Will the board allow the crowd during the remainder of PSL 2026?
Naqvi further mentioned that he talked with the PSL team owners for a long time to understand the situation. The PCB chief claimed that he received multiple requests to arrange the matches with the crowds in the gallery. He is expected to hold a meeting with the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif before confirming their future steps.
“I have met the team owners of PSL and the team after a long time. Many people from Karachi have also told me. I will meet the PM again in the next few days and request him.
But you should see what the situation is in the world. Let’s see what the oil crisis is. But I will definitely request the PM,” Mohsin Naqvi informed.
