The Kolkata Knight Riders head coach, Abhishek Nayar, was seen engaged in a heated exchange with the fourth umpire along the sidelines at the MA Chidambaram Stadium after CSK batters kept on wasting time with their players rushing in between overs with drinks and accessories.
KKR appointed Abhishek Nayar as the former Head coach Chandrakanth Pandit’s replacement. Under Nayar’s leadership, they revamped their side ahead of the IPL 2026 season; however, his plans have not gone very well so far in this season.
Though largely known for his composure and his calm demeanour, the KKR head coach was seen in his never-before-agitated avatar, as a result of which he entered into a heated clash with the umpire.
Abhishek Nayar fumes at the umpires in the CSK vs KKR match
As Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube were on the field taking on the KKR bowlers during the accelerating phase of the innings, they kept calling for a fresh pair of gloves amid the series. The player also rushed in with a pile of gloves.
However, what agitated Abhishek Nayar was the CSK water boys bringing in refreshments alongside the gloves. This wasted a lot of time, and Nayar complained about it to the fourth umpire, hoping that the umpires could intervene in the event.
He was agitated at this delay, which would have pushed the game to a stage where one fielder less could only be placed outside the 30-yard circle. He was unhappy with the way the umpires were conducting the game.
Eventually, the Kolkata Knight Riders were penalized for not finishing within the designated time. This led to Ajinkya Rahane spreading the field much less.
CSK batters fail to take the target past 200 runs, despite a promising start in the powerplay
Under head coach Abhishek Nayar’s leadership and the guidance from great T20 players like Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo, and Noor Ahmed, KKR is yet to bounce back in this season of the competition.
However, the Chennai Super Kings struggled early with the wicket of the skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad. Following the fall of early wickets, Sanju Samson and Ayush Mhatre took the CSK innings off to a flying start.
After 72 runs in the powerplay and Ayush Mhatre’s dismissal, Samson was left stranded alone, and until Brevis started making a difference, Samson was back in the dugout. However, they could manage the score of just 192, which implies they got to 120 runs in the remaining fourteen overs after the stunning start to their innings.
Anshul Kamboj might be eyeing the purple cap at Chepauk
Anshul Kamboj has been CSK’s most standout performer at the top of the innings and is a contender for the purple cap so far this season. The pacer has picked eight wickets in the last game, and is currently third on the list of players with the most wickets.
The pacer would have the chance to go past the Gujarat Titans bowler Prasidh Krishna, who has also picked 10 wickets in just four of the initial matches. Kamboj will be tested by the KKR batters, who are still waiting eagerly for their first win of the season.
