CSK Files Complaint Against RCB Over ‘Dosa-Idli’ Song

Out of nowhere, the Chennai Super Kings raised concerns with the BCCI about what came through the speakers at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5. During an away clash versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru, sound choices caught their attention – not in a good way. A tune looping “Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney, chutney” aired just ahead of their batting turn. That moment stood out sharply for them. Remarks made by the DJ added fuel, making it worse. What played wasn’t seen as random fun but something pointed. The franchise flagged it immediately after noticing the pattern. Attention zeroed in on how food references were repeated oddly. Not loud cheers, but lyrics seemed targeted. Their report stressed discomfort around context more than volume. Tone mattered. Timing did too. It unfolded right when they prepared to bat. No jokes landed well from their view. Silence would’ve felt better than that sequence. Details went straight up the chain to board officials.

Five-time winners voiced concern over the song choice. Before batting, the tune played – often linked to online jokes on southern tropes – stirred discomfort. An IPL insider verified the report, noting review by authorities. The melody’s use did not sit well, they mentioned. Inquiry is now underway after formal notice arrived from CSK. Officials acknowledged receipt of feedback. Action follows assessment, according to sources

CSK Managing Director Kasi Viswanathan responds

At the Chinnaswamy Stadium, things took an odd turn when remarks targeted some CSK players during play. Though DJs normally cheer for local sides, this time crossed a line. Because of what unfolded, the team reached out directly to the BCCI. Kasi Viswanathan, leading CSK as Managing Director, shared these details with the Indian Express. He pointed out that such behavior isn’t typical, which is why they felt the need to act. Since fairness matters, someone had to raise the issue formally. That step came after listening to how fans reacted on the ground.

It began last year, right before RCB faced CSK. Their wicketkeeper, Jitesh Sharma, appeared in a video they shared – singing the ‘Dosa, Idli’ tune. Reactions came fast, mostly from CSK supporters who mocked him online. Yet things shifted once the CSK team officials responded. They stated plainly: remarks about rival players or their followers wouldn’t come from them.

“After that incident, there hasn’t been any repeat of it. The DJ isn’t supposed to make any comment on the opposition players. Moreover, we are fortunate to have a lovely fanbase that cheers us in numbers,” Viswanathan said. Moreover, CSK has also objected to the comments made by the DJ on the public address system after the dismissal of their players during the match played on April 5.
