Rahul became the first Indian ever to score 150 in IPL history, and now his 152-run knock is the third-highest individual score in the league’s history. The top score still belongs to West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who smashed 175* for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013.

Then Universal Boss is followed by the New Zealander Brendon McCullum with 158* for the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008 as the second highest individual scorer in the IPL. Others in this elite list are Abhishek Sharma (141) for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Quinton de Kock (140*) for KKR.

KL Rahul overtakes Tilak Varma, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni

With this knock, the right-handed batter also became only the second Indian in men’s T20 cricket to score 150+ runs after Tilak Varma. Tilak had achieved the feat in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by scoring 151 for Hyderabad against Meghalaya.

Additionally, KL Rahul has climbed up the all-time run charts and achieved a big milestone by becoming the fifth-highest run scorer in IPL history. He now has 5579 runs to his name in the tournament, surpassing both Suresh Raina (5528 runs) and MS Dhoni (5439 runs) to enter the top 5.

Virat Kohli is leading the elite list with a massive 8989 runs for RCB, followed by Rohit Sharma (7183 runs), Shikhar Dhawan (6769 runs), and David Warner (6565 runs).

KL Rahul opens up about his mindset behind record knock vs PBKS

Meanwhile, KL Rahul explained his simple approach at the crease after his record-breaking knock in the ongoing clash in Delhi. The Indian batter said that he didn’t overthink at the start and just focused on playing normal cricket shots.

Rahul added that he trusts his basics, and he just stayed with his natural game for most of his innings against the PBKS. Rahul told the broadcasters, as quoted by Cricbuzz during the innings break, “I think for the first 70-80 runs, I wasn’t really premeditating. I was just in a mindset to hit boundaries and put pressure on the bowlers.”

The DC star added, “My strength is always to play proper cricket shots, and I was trying to back that and try and believe that that’s good enough to get my team past 250, and I continued to do that. Only at the back end was I premeditating, and when the field is set, when the bowlers go to the wide off-field or a spinner field, you know kind of what to expect.”
