Ex-BCCI selector gives reality check amid IPL 2026

Former India skipper and World Cup winner Krisnamachari Srikkanth has once again taken to his YouTube channel to lambast Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Shivam Dube.

Srikkanth made his comments in the aftermath of the match between CSK and Gujarat Titans on Sunday afternoon. CSK lost by eight wickets after struggling to put up a fighting total with the bat.

Against GT, Shivam Dube entered with the score at a precarious 37/4 in the ninth over. He made 22 runs in 17 balls, including three fours and a six, and put up an important partnership of 59 runs with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. Dube also bowled one over in the match, conceding 7 runs without taking any wickets.

“He has been a big failure” – Srikkanth on Shivam Dube

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Srikkanth said that Shivam Dube‘s failures in IPL 2026 have caused massive problems for CSK. So far this year, he has scored just 150 runs in 8 matches at a strike rate of around 140 and a high score of 45*. He has bowled just three overs this year and taken one wicket. He bowled two overs against RCB and took a wicket, but conceded 30 runs. Overall, he averages 37 with an economy of over 12 with the ball in IPL 2026.

“He is also struggling big. He keeps getting hyped as Sixer Dube and other things. It’s been two years since he scored impactfully in the IPL. You can’t just be someone who will only hit spin and nothing else. He is playing so well in international cricket, but not here. He has been a big failure at this IPL, and that’s causing a lot of problems for CSK, ” Srikkanth said.

Shivam Dube played a vital role as a finisher for India and helped them win the T20 World Cup earlier this year.

“He has been an utter failure this year” – Srikkanth

The 1983 World Cup winner reserved the harsher criticism for CSK’s other middle-order mainstay, Dewald Brevis.

“Last year, Dewald Brevis was a revelation. After hyping him up as baby ABD, he has been a big letdown this season. What has he done this year? He has done nothing great. Brevis has been an utter failure this year. Coming in at 4 or 5 doesn’t matter. You are supposed to score. Rookies like Suthar and Shivang Kumar have easily pocketed him.”

“See how guys like Suryavanshi, Ayush Mhatre, and Priyansh Arya are showing no second-season syndromes. Why is baby ABD not able to do that? Whenever the team has needed, Brevis hasn’t scored. Against SRH, CSK had the match in their pocket. That time, he threw his wicket away,” he added.

CSK‘s batting woes have meant that the five-time champions are currently in sixth place on the points table with just three wins in eight matches.

CSK’s next match

CSK will stay at home in Chennai for their next match, where they will take on arch-rivals Mumbai Indians on May 2.

With no batters other than Sanju Samson showing any sort of consistency, CSK will hope that Shivam Dube starts coming good as they make their push for the playoffs.
