Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are set to convene an urgent board meeting following allegations of spot-fixing and corruption linked to illegal betting activities. The meeting is expected to take place ahead of the franchise’s Annual General Meeting on September 25, with the management set to review the claims.
Former cricketer Rachit Bhatia made claims about match-fixing during the IPL 2025 in an investigative sting operation by media outlet Tehelka. The allegations have put CSK under renewed scrutiny, more than a decade after the franchise was suspended for two seasons following the 2013 IPL betting scandal.
CSK Board to Review Fixing Allegations Ahead of AGM
A senior CSK official confirmed to Cricbuzz that the board will discuss the allegations. The official also stated that the information currently available in the public domain remains unverified.
“We have our Annual General Meeting (AGM) coming up. Our board will meet ahead of the AGM. We will discuss the matter,” the CSK official told Cricbuzz.
CSK have maintained a zero-tolerance approach towards corruption in cricket. The BCCI and IPL Governing Council have not publicly confirmed any findings against CSK or any of its players.
What Did the Tehelka Sting Operation Allege?
According to the Tehelka report, Rachit Bhatia claimed that a CSK player provided him with confidential information about the team’s playing XI during IPL 2025.
Bhatia allegedly sold the information to London-based bookmakers for ₹60 lakh per match and claimed to have earned around ₹3 crore from five matches. The report did not identify the CSK player.
The report also said Bhatia claimed he could provide similar information during IPL 2026 if his source was picked by CSK at the auction. He reportedly quoted ₹1 crore and claimed a 90% guarantee. But the player was not picked.
Bhatia also claimed to have access to information from the Delhi Premier League. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has described the allegations as unverified and approached the BCCI for guidance.
Vansh Bedi Denies Links to CSK Allegations
The Tehelka report did not name the CSK player allegedly involved. However, social media speculation linked Delhi wicketkeeper-batter Vansh Bedi to the claims because he was part of CSK’s 2025 squad and represented Central Delhi Kings in the DPL.
Bedi denied any connection to the allegations and said his legal team would take civil and criminal action against those spreading the claims.
“I categorically state that I am not the individual referred to by ex-Ranji Trophy cricketer Rachit Bhatia in the Tehelka Sting Operation concerning alleged match-fixing involving a CSK player, nor do I have involvement in any such activity,” Bedi wrote on Instagram.
The Tehelka report did not identify Bedi as the alleged source. According to the Press Trust of India, Bedi had also reported a suspected corrupt approach to the DPL Anti-Corruption Unit during the 2026 season.
The allegations have revived memories of CSK’s previous IPL suspension. In 2015, CSK and Rajasthan Royals were suspended for two seasons following the betting scandal involving CSK team official Gurunath Meiyappan and former Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra.
