There is some relief for the South African speedster Lungi Ngidi and Delhi Capitals (DC) after a scary moment during their IPL 2026 clash against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 25. Lungi Ngidi has now been discharged from the hospital and has returned to the DC team hotel.
The fast bowler had suffered a head injury during DC’s previous IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings that left everyone worried for him. The scary incident unfolded when Lungi Ngidi went for a catch and fell badly after Priyansh Arya failed to connect properly on a big shot against Axar Patel and the ball went high up towards the mid-off area.
Catch attempt turns dangerous for Lungi Ngidi
The South African star was running backwards to grab the ball but lost his balance and hit the back of his head and neck on the ground. Everyone got worried as the game had to be stopped for over 15 minutes as the medical team checked on Ngidi and took him off on a stretcher.
He was then taken to BLK-Max Super Specialty Hospital for further tests. The good news is that all the reports, including his scan, came out normal. Later, Ngidi also shared that he is doing fine now, which gave a big relief to fans and the team.
Lungi Ngidi unlikely to play in DC vs RCB IPL 2026 clash
Thankfully, doctors have confirmed that there is nothing serious or life-threatening after doing several scans, including a CT scan. However, Ngidi is still under close medical observation and will need some more time to recover fully.
Because of this, he is all but ruled out of Delhi Capitals’ home match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 27 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
A Cricbuzz report says: “Lungi Ngidi has returned to the team hotel after being cleared of any serious injury, but he is unlikely to feature in the immediate future.”
Phil Salt to miss DC vs RCB clash
Meanwhile, there is also a setback for Royal Challengers Bengaluru as well. RCB’s star opener Phil Salt will also miss the IPL 2026 game against Delhi Capitals on Monday after missing the previous game against the Gujarat Titans (GT).
Salt got injured during a practice session, and he is still recovering. The RCB team management does not want to take any risk, so they have decided to give Salt more time to get fully fit. In his absence, Jacob Bethell is likely to open the batting along with Virat Kohli.
The Englishman will be a big miss for the defending champions, as he is not just a dangerous opener but also a gun fielder. Before the injury, he has been in very good form this season, amassing 202 runs in six matches at an impressive strike rate of over 168.
RCB is currently sitting second on the IPL 2026 points table with 10 points from seven games, while DC is struggling at the seventh spot with only 6 points from the seven games so far this season.
