Not even the controversial topic can stop the legendary Sourav Ganguly from giving his opinion or view. With questions are being raised about yet another India vs Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup 2026, Ganguly also reiterated his stance on the issue stating that politics and sports have to be kept separate. Ganguly in an interview stated that he is happy that the Indo-Pak match is still going to take place on February 15 as scheduled, especially after the boycott drama that was staged by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following Bangladesh’s exit from the tournament.
Speaking to India Today, Ganguly shared his views about the power play in the match. However, the former captain feels that India will be entering the match as clear favourites while also stating that an upset can never be ruled out in a T20 game.
India is a very strong team, I have said it before. India are the favourites for me. But in a T20, anything can happen. Pakistan will have to play very well to beat India because India is a very strong team.”
When asked to describe the threat that Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq will pose to India’s batting lineup, Ganguly was able to dispel all concerns. He said: “The batters in the Indian subcontinent play spin well. So, the Pakistani threat in the form of Usman-Tariq spin bowling is not a worry,” Ganguly said.
The phrase on the field is used to indicate something related to sports, and is normally utilised in cricket and football contexts. I am very happy that the match is taking place between India and Pakistan and should take place. I have said it before that sports and politics are different and sports should be like sports. “Matches are held on the field and I am very happy that the match between India and Pakistan is happening and should happen,” he added (ibid).
Ganguly Support Sanju Samson
When asked about India’s combination for the game, Ganguly maintained that Sanju Samson is a batter capable of replacing Abhishek Sharma, who is unlikely to be fit for the match after suffering from stomach issues at the start of the tournament.
The combination is constant. The combination is fixed. He will play in place of Sanju if Abhishek Sharma is fit. Otherwise, the rest is the same. If he is not fit, Sanju will play.”
Sanju is also a very good player. Therefore, it is important to give him a bit of chance because no player can ever play under so much pressure that if they fail twice, they are out and if they score runs, they stay.
