PBKS coach provides official update ahead of SRH match

Punjab Kings (PBKS) will face the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the 49th match of the ongoing IPL 2026 season. Ahead of the match, there are still some speculations around the PBKS star Shashank Singh. Will he play against the Sunrisers Hyderabad tomorrow (May 6) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium? That’s been a question ahead of the match.

Shashank Singh missed a couple of matches. It is reported that the experienced cricketer of Punjab Kings has been recovering from a hamstring injury, which he might have sustained during the Delhi Capitals match, which was held on April 25 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Will Shashank Singh play vs SRH?

He missed a couple of matches already and is doubtful for the SRH match as well. Before the SRH vs PBKS match, the assistant coach of the Punjab Kings, Brad Haddin, provided some crucial updates on Shashank’s fitness.

Haddin said that apart from Shashank, the rest of the squad is fit and fine to face the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the away match. As of now, Shashank Singh is not sure about the game.

“It looks like Shashank will run around and do everything today. That’s our only concern from a fitness point of view, we’ve got all our squad available now. And Shashank will have his last hit out today, and hopefully that goes exactly how we think it will go,” the assistant coach of PBKS informed.

Singh made blunders in fielding against the Delhi Capitals

In a separate conversation, the cricketer himself provided some hints about his injury and fitness. He claimed that the injury will heal soon. But, there is no clear statement on when he will be able to make his way back into the playing combination again for the Punjab Kings.

However, fans are sensing something different behind the absence of Shashank Singh’s absence from the recent few matches. During their match against the Delhi Capitals, he dropped multiple crucial catches and made silly mistakes in the field. One of his major blunders was to drop a sitter of KL Rahul, who, later in the innings, registered a century.

During the first innings of the match, when PBKS was the fielding side, Shashank Singh left the field after making those mistakes on the field. While he was on the dugout, sitting near the head coach, Ricky Ponting, he was spotted pointing towards his hamstring area.

Shreyas Iyer mentioned it as a ‘forced’ change

At the toss of the Punjab Kings vs Rajasthan Royals match, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer mentioned Singh’s exclusion from the playing eleven as a forced substitution.

“We would have loved to bowl first as well. The wicket was covered for the last few days because of the weather. All of us are proactive, irrespective of whether we are bowling first or second. We have one forced change, Suryansh comes in place of Shashank. Also, Lockie comes in place of Xavier,” Iyer said at the toss of the match.
