Chennai Super Kings (CSK) effortlessly chased down the challenging target of 204 runs on May 10, against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). With this win, CSK climbed to the fifth spot of the 10-team league and made the race to the play-offs more competitive. For the Lukcnow Super Giants, the season is over for them.
The LSG camp was in joy when Sanju Samson went back to the hut early in the second innings. So far, Samson has appeared as the main man for CSK in their batting. Getting an in-form batter’s wicket early in the innings was a big deal for the Rishabh Pant-led side.
CSK has done a brilliant job with their batting part
Ruturaj Gaikwad and his boys are now rejuvenated and have gotten their mojo back after a shaky start at the beginning of the ongoing Indian Premier League season. Samson’s departure did not massively harm CSK, as they performed with the bat as a team. They surpassed the target score with two more balls to spare and won the match by 5 wickets.
Urvil Patel’s quick-fire 65 off 23, captain Gaikwad’s well-composed 42, set the tone of the Chennai Super Kings. Later, brief knocks from the other middle-order batters proved enough to outplay the Lucknow Super Giants.

LSG captain explains why they lost vs CSK
After the match, Rishabh Pant, the LSG captain, mentioned that it was a pressure game, and CSK responded brilliantly. Pant was not happy with their fielding standards as they dropped multiple catches at crucial junctures of the contest.
He praised CSK’s emerging batter, Urvil Patel, for batting brilliantly in the run chase. Rishabh Pant also mentioned that they could have gotten a few more runs on the scoreboard. After the loss LSG became the first team to be eliminated from the IPL 2026.
Rishabh Pant is not happy with the team’s performance
“Definitely, it was a great game. Everything was coming nicely, we knew they’d put us under pressure, as that’s how it happens in Chennai. In T20s, fielding standards have to be there, with too many dropped catches. Urvil played a fantastic, unbelievable knock, like Inglis for us. We knew someone had to take the attack, Inglis for us, Urvil for them,” Rishabh Pant said at the presentation ceremony.
“They held on to their nerves better than us. Definitely, given how we started, we would have liked to aim for more, but we knew close to 200, 210 would be a good target. they got off to a flier in the power play. But at the same time, we knew that it was getting difficult and after the power play, the ball was getting older and it was sort of difficult to bat on the wicket.”
“That came to my mind (on using Shahbaz in the final over), but two lefties batting, it was a tough call to have. You’ve got to back someone who can just go over us and again, as Markram for a lot of times for us in the past years also.,” he added.
