The match no. 54 was the second match of Sunday’s double header, where the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) took on the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Raipur. This was the reverse fixture, and the reigning champions won the low-scoring thriller by 2 wickets off the final ball of the 20th over.
MI was led by Suryakumar Yadav, as Hardik Pandya missed out on the game, as he is still not fit. However, it was Rajat Patidar who won the toss and elected to field first; the reigning champions played the same team from their last loss. Mumbai also fielded an unchanged side from their win in the last game.
IPL 2026: RCB vs MI Match Result:
After being put into bat first, Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton did not have the best of a start, with the latter being dismissed on the score of two runs with Buvneshwar Kumar picking the wicket. Then Rohit took on the charge and smacked 22 runs before being dismissed by his former India teammate Bhuvi on the night.
In the very next ball, SKY also departed for a golden duck, as MI were reduced to 28/3 inside the power play. Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir then stitched a partnership between them of 82 runs, and as the latter was back scoring 47 runs in the game, with MI being 110/4 at one stage.
Tilak brought up his fifty in 37 balls, and tried to up the run rate by scoring 57 runs off 42 deliveries as Bhuvi was the pick of the bowlers, finishing his four-over spell 4/23. Raj Angad Bawa scored 16 runs as MI finished with the score of 165/7 in their 20 overs.
Coming out to chase, Virat Kohli was out for a duck on the first ball he faced, and MI bowlers were all over RCB as Deepak Chahar picked his second wicket after Kohli, dismissing the dangerous Devdutt Padikkal for 12 runs. After that, Rajat Patidar did not trouble scoring just 8 runs on the night.
Krunal Pandya and Jacob Bethell then stitched a partnership of 55 runs between them, but the latter was dismissed on the score of 27 runs. The former brought up his fifty in 32 balls. Jitesh Sharma was back on the score of 18 runs, and Tim David went back without scoring.
Pandya was back after playing a sensational knock of 73 runs and put RCB to a winning position, and MI came back into the game, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar smacked a six with 9 needed of three as Rajat Patidar’s side pulled off the thriller in the final ball.
