Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, who will be a Minister in the V.D. Satheesan Cabinet, on Monday (May 18, 2026) said that his priority would be to ensure the happiness and peaceful life of the people of Kerala.
Mr. Chennithala said that the UDF government in the State will be one which gives hope to the people of Kerala.
“My priority would be to ensure happiness and a peaceful life for the people by maintaining law and order in the state,” he told reporters here a few hours ahead of taking oath as a minister in the State Cabinet.
When asked whether he had to fight to get the Home Department portfolio, Mr. Chennithala rejected it, saying that he held that responsibility in the earlier UDF government of 2011 and 40 years back, he was a Minister in the K. Karunakaran administration.
“This time, the CM told me I can take any portfolio and based on the directions of the party high command and the wishes of the people of Haripad, I decided to join the cabinet as Home Minister,” he said.
Mr. Chennithala further said that the party has given him a lot of opportunities since the age of 26 when he became a Minister — a record in the State, according to him.
The senior Congress leader also said that all the Ministers in the UDF cabinet will work for the dreams and welfare of the people. — PTI
