The Arun Jaitley Stadium was electric on Sunday, as the Delhi Capitals (DC) secured a thrilling 5-wicket win over the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 62nd match of IPL 2026. Chasing a challenging 194, Delhi paced their innings beautifully to finish at 197/5 with 4 balls remaining. Driven by a sensational opening stand and a composed finish under pressure, this crucial victory significantly strengthens DC’s position in a tight playoff race.
RR sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi added another incredible achievement to his growing IPL legacy by breaking a unique record in a single IPL season, continuing his dream campaign. The youngster once again displayed his fearless batting style at the top of the order, taking on Delhi’s bowlers from the very beginning and entertaining the crowd with yet another attacking knock.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi scripts new IPL milestone
After RR were asked to bat first, Suryavanshi got off to a blazing start by smashing a six off the very first ball he faced from Lungi Ngidi. The teenager continued his aggressive approach against Mitchell Starc and debutant Tripurana Vijay, finding boundaries with ease during the powerplay.
His third six of the innings helped him go past Abhishek Sharma’s previous record of 42 sixes in a single IPL edition. Vaibhav now sits at the top of the list among Indian batters for most maximums in one season. The RR opener eventually departed after scoring a quickfire 46 off 21 balls, an innings featuring five fours and three sixes.
Another landmark in a stunning IPL 2026 campaign
Vaibhav has enjoyed a sensational IPL 2026 season so far and continues to rewrite record books despite being only 15 years old. Earlier in the tournament, he became the youngest cricketer to complete 100 T20 sixes and did so in the fewest balls faced.
The youngster has already smashed a century and multiple rapid-fire fifties this season, emerging as Rajasthan Royals’ leading run-scorer. His fearless intent against some of the world’s best bowlers has made him one of the standout performers of IPL 2026.

Rajasthan Royals fail to capitalise on strong start
Despite the explosive beginning provided by Suryavanshi, the Rajasthan Royals failed to finish strongly with the bat. Contributions from Dhruv Jurel and Riyan Parag kept RR in control for most of the innings, but Delhi Capitals bounced back impressively during the death overs.
RR eventually posted 193/8 after a late collapse, and Delhi later chased down the target successfully. With this result, the Rajasthan Royals no longer have their destiny in their own hands, as they need to win their remaining two games and then hope that other results go their way.
