Rajasthan Royals (RR) are in another must-win match in front of them in their IPL 2026 campaign. To remain in the title race, they will have to defeat the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Mumbai. Ahead of the crucial match, the assistant coach of the Rajasthan Royals had to face multiple questions related to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The coach provided updates on Riyan Parag and Ravindra Jadeja as well.
On the final lap of the group stage of IPL 2026, RR has multiple injury issues. Some of their key players, like Ravindra Jadeja and their captain Riyan Parag, missed the previous fixture because of injuries. Yashavasvi Jaiswal played as their stand-in skipper against the Lucknow Super Giants. In the high-scoring game, without Parag and Jadeja on the field, Rajasthan got a crucial win.
Ravindra Jadeja and Riyan Parag’s injury updates
Will Riyan Parag and Ravindra Jadeja be fit enough to face the Mumbai Indians on May 24? The RR coach informed that they are still keeping an eye on their progress. However, Yashavasi Jaiswal’s arrival has come as a massive relief to the team.
“We will see Ravindra Jadeja and Riyan Parag’s fitness at the training today… Yashasvi Jaiswal played a brilliant innings in the last game. If we go to the final, he will still have a 600-700-run season,” Trevor Penny told the media at the pre-match press conference.
Why did they miss the previous game?
As per media reports, Riyan Parag is recovering from a hamstring injury that caused him to miss recent Rajasthan Royals matches, while Ravindra Jadeja has been sidelined with a minor knee niggle, an elbow issue, and overall workload management.
RR assistant coach on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s fielding qualities
On the other side, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, RR, so far has used him only as a batter, as an impact cricketer, not as a full-time cricketer on the field. As the team has used the 15-year-old only as an impact player, he has yet to show his fielding qualities in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
Is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi lacking in fielding skills? Rajasthan Royals assistant coach Trevor Penny faced this question ahead of their match at the Wankhede Stadium. Penny informed that they are using Soooryavanshi as an impact player as they want to protect their young talent. Penny claims that the emerging cricketer is fine at fielding and running between the wickets as well, along with his batting skills.
Penny also informed that the young prodigy is in his own bubble, and the team is doing everything possible to protect him.
“Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is in his own bubble. He practises hard, enjoys himself, and we are doing everything to take care of the young boy. He is freakish. Vaibhav is a very good fielder. He is very good at running between the wickets. We are using him as an Impact Player because we want to keep him fresh for batting,” the assistant coach of the Rajasthan Royals said in Mumbai.
