The match was turned into a dead rubber, so the result of the match will not have any effect on the top four of the IPL 2026 points table. In response to DC’s 203, KKR could score 163 runs in 18.4 overs at the expense of all of their wickets.
Kuldeep Yadav’s single over changes the whole complexion of the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals (KKR vs DC) match tonight. At one point of the match, when Ajinkya Rahane, the KKR skipper, was in the middle, batting with pure confidence, they looked good enough to claim the win.
But, in the end, it was the Delhi Capitals who got the win at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. As soon as Rahane headed back to the pavilion, the remaining batting unit fell apart.
Ajinkya Rahane is happy with their efforts
At the presentation ceremony, the KKR skipper mentioned that the wicket was not very easy to bat on in the initial part of the innings. Despite losing the top four spot, Rahane is proud of his teammates as they made an exceptional comeback after securing a series of defeats in the first half of the group stage.
“Yeah, I mean, the wicket was a little tricky at the start. I was batting really well and knew one batter had to go through, so I tried to take my chances. I was actually looking to target strike rotation as well. Talking about the kind of season we had, I’m really proud of everyone.
KKR skipper positive despite loss
“The situation we were in after six games and then from there coming back, keeping the league alive and playing that kind of cricket needed character, a good attitude, and resilience. I’m really proud of every individual,” Ajinkya Rahane said.
“A lot of positives. In the first half of the season, there were key moments where we were losing out, but after that, coming back from there is never easy. IPL is a long tournament with a lot of pressure and high-pressure situations.”
“But again, staying strong, having that character and attitude in every game and trying your best for the team – inside the dressing room, we all were really happy,” he further added to support the team.
Rahane reveals his future
Rahane confirms that after the break, they will be in touch with everyone to discuss their next plans for the next season. The batter also stated that after a couple of off days, he will be featured in Mumbai’s local league.
“I think at the moment the guys have their commitments. We’ll just go off to our homes, probably take some time off, and then obviously we’ll probably connect over calls or Zoom and have discussions moving forward.
“For me, just a couple of days off. I’m going to play my local league in Mumbai, which I’m really looking forward to. I’m happy as long as I’m playing cricket. So yes, a couple of days off and then back to cricket,” KKR skipper concluded.
