Mitchell Marsh set to miss Pakistan ODIs as Australia prepare captaincy switch: Report

Australia National Cricket Team’s plans for the Pakistan tour have suffered a late setback, with stand-in skipper Mitchell Marsh now in serious doubt for the upcoming series.

As per the fresh reports, Cricket Australia is already preparing for a captaincy switch for the series against the Men in Green because Mitchell Marsh is unlikely to be available for the ODI matches.

Mitchell Marsh is likely to be ruled out of the Pakistan series

According to a report by CODE Sports, Mitchell Marsh is in serious doubt for Australia’s ODI series against Pakistan, and Cricket Australia is preparing for a leadership change before the start of the tour.

The report claimed that Australia’s “fourth-choice white-ball captain” could end up leading the side in Marsh’s absence. With regular captain Pat Cummins unavailable and several other senior players rested, Josh Inglis could be the player who is now likely to take charge of the ODI team.

Notably, Josh Inglis has quietly developed into one of Australia’s most trusted white-ball players, and he has already captained Australia in patches before.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding the exact nature of Marsh’s issue. Cricket Australia has also not released any injury statement. However, the latest developments have put Australia in a slightly awkward position because the squad is already missing many of its biggest names.

Mitchell Marsh missed Lucknow Super Giants’ final game of IPL 2026

Mitchell Marsh had already left the IPL 2026 midway before Lucknow Super Giants’ final league-stage game against the Punjab Kings. The Australian all-rounder flew early to Pakistan to join the national side ahead of the ODI series.

His absence was seen as a major blow for Lucknow Super Giants because Marsh had been one of their best performers in IPL 2026. Despite LSG enduring a disappointing campaign, the Australian batter remained consistent throughout the season.

Mitchell Marsh finished IPL 2026 with 563 runs from 13 matches at an average of 43.30 and a strike rate of 163.18. He also smashed one century and three half-centuries during the season.

Australia tour of Pakistan 2026 details

Australia’s white-ball tour of Pakistan will consist of a three-match ODI series. Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood are all missing from the squad alongside opener Travis Head.

The selectors instead opted to hand opportunities to younger players and fringe performers, including Ollie Peake and Liam Scott. Cameron Green also returns as part of the squad after recovering from injury.

Meanwhile, the three ODI matches between the Australia National Cricket Team and the Pakistan National Cricket Team will be played on May 30, June 2, and June 4.
