The Hindu Huddle panel to throw light on AI and its impact

Artificial Intelligence is the flavour of the times. It is not the preserve of technology geeks anymore, and it is impacting all our lives in ways known and unknown. Many of us already use AI models in our jobs and in our homes. The likes of Google Gemini, Chat GPT, and Perplexity have transformed the way we surf for information on the Internet.

But AI and its impact on us is much more than this. Will AI eat away jobs, especially in the technology domain, where India employs almost six million professionals? Will AI create new jobs? Where is India in the race to lead AI transformation in the world? Do we have the technology backbone and infrastructure to support AI development in India? What is the government doing to ensure India does not get left behind in the AI race?

These are only a sample of the questions that will be answered in a panel discussion at The Hindu Huddle in Bangalore on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

Secretary, Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, S. Krishnan; Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India V. Anantha Nageswaran; and former CEO, Cognizant, and Chancellor, Krea University Lakshmi Narayanan, will huddle together to brainstorm some of the emerging issues in the field of AI, and its likely impact on jobs in India. The discussion will be moderated by Raghuvir Srinivasan, Editor, The Hindu Business Line.

Mr. Krishnan has been at the forefront of emerging government policy in the field of AI for over two years. Whether helping set up semiconductor production and packaging capacity, creating space for hyperscalers, or enabling the development of indigenous large language models, Mr. Krishnan has been proactive in his position as the Union IT Secretary.

Mr. Anantha Nageswaran has carried out deep research on AI and its impact on jobs in India. The Economic Survey 2026, prepared by him and his team, dwells extensively on the subject of skilling and job creation in the AI era.

Mr. Lakshmi Narayanan is an astute observer of the emerging AI scenario and brings to bear considerable experience in the IT industry. He is also an active early stage investor and hence is updated on the latest in the industry.
