Peddi Scores Lesser Than Devara on First Day

Minutes to read: 3 min

Ram Charan’s latest release Peddi has taken over the Indian box office as the sports drama entertainer has become the latest Rs 100 crore opener from Indian cinema. With such a mega opener comes the question, “Did Ram Charan beat Jr. NTR at the box office?” The answer to this question lies in the Peddi vs Devara opening day box office collection. While Peddi is the latest highly-awaited entertainer of Ram Charan, Devara, released in 2024, was the last box office hit of Jr. NTR. Read further to know which one out of the two Tollywood superstars has shown and proven a bigger stardom in the Peddi vs Devara opening day collection comparison.

How Much is Ram Charan’s Peddi Opening Day Box Office Collection?

Ram Charan’s Peddi box office collection worldwide for its opening day (Day 1 + premieres) was Rs 113.31 crore. Out of this massive total, it grossed Rs 85.81cr in India and $2.85M (Rs 27.50 crore) at the overseas box office. With this total worldwide opening, Peddi became the second highest opener of Ram Charan’s career after RRR, also his second Rs 100cr+ opening day grosser.
The Peddi India opening day collection can be clearly defined as impressive. Besides Kerala, this entertainer started its run on a great note among all South Indian states. While its Telugu version in the two Telugu states, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, was expected to open big, its dubbed versions also opened well except the Hindi dub. The Hindi version started its run on a decent note considering the movie’s face value for the North Indian audience.

How Much was Jr. NTR’s Devara Opening Day Box Office Collection?

Jr. NTR’s Devara, released in 2024, had started its run with majorly mixed reviews. Despite these mixed reviews, the film became the second biggest opener of Jr. NTR’s career after RRR with a worldwide opening day gross of Rs 138.84cr. This huge total included Rs 93.51cr grossed at the Indian box office and $5.26M (Rs 45.33cr) at the overseas box office.
The Devara opening day collection in 2024 at the overseas box office was almost double of Peddi, which was released in 2026. A similar case is with the film’s higher Indian box office collection.

In Peddi vs Devara opening day collection comparison, the numbers clearly say that the Ram Charan starrer Peddi has failed to beat Devara’s opening day collection milestone. To be more precise, Peddi’s opening is 18.4% less than Devara.
Peddi and Devara are both highly-anticipated Tollywood releases of their respective times. However, there are several factors that harmed the collection of the Ram Charan starrer and many that helped the Jr. NTR film.
Devara: Part 1 showed a bigger opening as Jr. NTR was coming directly after the success of RRR. At the same time, it was received as an overall weak film. But again, War 2’s Telugu dub was very bad and hence it failed. Meanwhile, Ram Charan’s track record shows two back-to-back disasters before Peddi – Game Changer and Acharya, even though he was also coming back after RRR. Another factor harming Peddi’s opening and hype was its below-par trailer that built a very negative perception of the movie before release.
Interestingly, Ram Charan’s next film after RRR was Acharya, directed by Koratala Siva, which became one of the biggest Indian disasters of Indian cinema. Later, director Koratala Siva made his comeback with the Jr. NTR-led Devara, which ended up becoming the third highest-grossing Tollywood movie of 2024.

Jr. NTR or Ram Charan, Who is the Bigger Star?

Analyzing both the film’s collections, we can somewhat declare that Jr. NTR commands a bigger star power than Ram Charan in the Ram Charan vs Jr. NTR comparison, especially when we take the Hindi collections into consideration. However, this is not a very certain answer when we consider just a few films of the two. To know if Ram Charan is a bigger superstar or Jr. NTR, we need to wait and see the performance of their future films to see if they can march at the same level.
While Peddi has lost the opening day battle, it is yet to be seen how well the Ram Charan starrer can hold on to its momentum during the weekdays. From here onwards, whether Peddi can beat the opening weekend and lifetime collection of Devara Part 1 or not will depend on its word-of-mouth.
