Punjab Kings (PBKS) are doing exceptionally well in the ongoing IPL 2026, and they are the only team that hasn’t lost a single match so far this season. Still, there is one big concern that cannot be ignored, and that is Arshdeep Singh’s form with the ball.
The left-arm fast bowler has not looked at his best so far in the ongoing IPL 2026. He has been leaking more runs than expected and has struggled to pick wickets in the powerplay. Arshdeep has so far conceded 149 runs in his 16 overs that he has bowled so far and taken only two wickets.
Aaron Finch says Arshdeep Singh’s poor form is a ‘Good Sign’ for Punjab Kings
Despite his horrible numbers, former Australian captain Aaron Finch feels Arshdeep’s current form is not a big problem for Punjab Kings. In fact, Finch believes that the Indian pacer’s struggle could be a positive sign for the franchise, as they are doing well without their trump card.
The World Cup-winning captain has pointed out that Arshdeep’s biggest strength is his ability to swing the ball both ways, especially bringing the ball back into right-handed batters, but this season, that sharp inswing is missing, and he is relying more on outswing deliveries.
Yet, the Punjab Kings are winning the matches in the ongoing IPL 2026, and Finch said this shows how strong and balanced their overall team is.
He’s probably just lost his ability to bowl the inswinger: Finch on Arshdeep
Finch told select media during IPL 2026 rivalry week as quoted by News18: “Yes, he hasn’t gotten the power play wickets. To me, that’s a good sign… if Arshdeep isn’t getting power play wickets and they’re still winning games comfortably.”
The former Australian opener added, “He’s probably just lost his ability to bowl the inswinger to the right-handers as much as he used to… he was a big swinger of the ball both ways. I feel he’s probably going more to his outswinger, which is a bit more of a defensive mindset. But it’s a good sign if they’re still winning games and your number one trump card still hasn’t fired… that would give me a huge amount of confidence as a captain.”
Finch also pointed out that the Punjab Kings have been very clear with their team roles. He further noted that the players are being used in positions where they are most comfortable, and this clarity is helping them perform better as a unit in the ongoing IPL 2026.

Aaron Finch hails explosive duo, Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya
Meanwhile, one of the biggest reasons behind Punjab’s success has been their fearless batting at the top. Young openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya have been giving explosive starts.
Prabhsimran and Priyansh’s attacking style has made a big difference for the Punjab Kings, as they don’t wait to settle down and start hitting from the first ball itself, and Finch said that this is making life easier for the rest of the batting lineup.
Finch signed off by saying, “Prabhsimran and Priyansh at the top of the order—they’ve been brilliant. Their ability to put teams under so much pressure right from the start is impressive. It’s the youngsters around the competition that are doing that more and more at the moment. Their ability to strike from ball one and almost really disrupt plans of opposition bowling attacks and captains.”
