Abhishek Sharma gives Digvesh Rathi-like send-off to Riyan Parag in SRH vs RR clash

The debutants ruled the Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals (SRH vs RR) match on April 13 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain clinched 8 Royals wickets together and guided SRH to a comfortable win on their home ground. While most of the talks have been around Hinge and Hussain, a video of Abhishek Sharma went viral on social media platforms.

Celebrations often serve as a medium to express emotions. Last night, when Hinge took the RR captain Riyan Parag’s wicket, combined with Abhishek Sharma, who was in the slip cordon, it was one of the most defining moments of the match. Sharma’s celebration was proof of how much they valued the wicket of Parag.

Abhishek Sharma took a brilliant catch in slip to dismiss the Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag

Abhishek Sharma took a well-controlled catch in the slip to dismiss Riyan Parag. Parag went for only 4 runs after facing 6 balls, hitting only one 4. In the form of celebration, Abhishek went aggressive after taking the catch. What Abhishek Sharma did to celebrate the dismissal of Riyan Parag is also considered a direct hit to the batter’s pride.

Some cricket fans compared Sharma’s aggressive celebration to that of the Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi, whose ‘Notebook Celebration’ is equally infamous and controversial.

Whenever Rathi took a wicket, he put out an invisible notebook from his pocket to register the name of the batter he dismissed. On multiple occasions, batters had lost their mind to see the celebration, as it was a direct hit to their pride.

On the other side, it was the Royals’ first defeat of the ongoing IPL 2026 campaign. Despite the heavy losses, they remained on top of the points table with 8 points in 5 matches with a net run rate of +0.889, while Hyderabad’s net run rate is +0.576.
