Star cricketer of Bengal, Abishek Porel, who played for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), has been arrested by police in connection with a criminal offence.
In the recent past, a medical student filed a complaint accusing Abishek Porel of criminal intimidation, rape and other serious offences. When the allegations first made headlines, Abishek Porel denied the accusations lodged against him.
Abishek Porel was arrested by the police in West Bengal
Later, as the case progressed under the observation of the Calcutta High Court, the cricketer was found guilty. According to media reports on August 11, Tuesday, after he was found guilty, the court directed the police to arrest Abishek Porel.
According to media reports, Hooghly Rural police SP Kunwar Bhushan Singh informed that Abishek was arrested by the police from Emami City under the Dum Dum police station.
The case has been registered under multiple sections
Earlier in June this year, the complainant mentioned that Abishek was engaged in a sexual relationship with promises of marriage, but later, he started to distance himself from the relationship.
It is learnt that the case against the cricketer was registered under multiple sections. According to NDTV Profit, sSections 64(1), 66, 69, 74, 75(2), 79, 115(2), 117(2), 124(1), 127(2), 109, 308(2), 351(2), 351(3), 316(2), 318(3), 61(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Sections 66E and 72 of the Information Technology Act were registered in the case.
Mentioning SP Kunwar Bhushan Singh, the report informed that Abishek is arrested in connection with Mogra PS Case No. 346/26.
Abishek, however, denied all the allegations, calling them false. The reality turned completely different for him.
In previous reports, it was claimed that Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya directed the police officials to trace down the accused to arrest him.
“It is disclosed in the communication dated 6th July, 2026 that one pen drive/storage device is seized from the petitioner…and it is believed that certain materials are stored therein… It appears that accused persons…are required to be apprehended for seizure of electronic devices lying with them so that data stored therein cannot be shared with others…”, a part of the order reads.
The court also asked the police to seize the electronic gadgets of Porel to protect the data which could be related to the case.
Abishek Porel’s professional cricket career in brief
Porel last featured during an IPL 2026 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He has been associated with the Delhi-based franchise since the 2023 season. From 2023 to 2026, the keeper-batter played 35 matches for the franchise to score 769 runs for a batting average of 25.62 and a strike rate of 145.36.
In the course of the season, he registered four half-centuries as well. In the previous campaign of the league, Abishek Porel featured in only 4 matches, where he got to score 108 runs, averaging 27.00, including one half-century.
