The Women’s Premier League (WPL) continues to create opportunities for international cricketers, with franchises strengthening their squads ahead of the 2027 season. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians have added a new player to their roster through a trade deal with UP Warriorz, bringing experience and a notable WPL record into their setup. The move also provides the incoming player with another opportunity to establish herself in one of the leading women’s T20 competitions.
USA star to represent Mumbai Indians in WPL 2027
USA left-arm pacer Tara Norris will represent Mumbai Indians in WPL 2027 after being traded from UP Warriorz, the franchise confirmed. The American fast bowler will remain on her existing contract of INR 10 lakh, keeping the financial terms of her deal unchanged. Norris will be hoping to make the most of her opportunity with Mumbai Indians, a franchise that has won the WPL title five times. Her arrival adds an international bowling option to the squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.
The 2027 season will also mark Norris’ return to the tournament after her last appearance in the inaugural edition in 2023. Although she was associated with UP Warriorz following the 2026 auction, she could not participate in that season because she was selected for the United States’ Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier campaign. Her move to Mumbai therefore presents a fresh opportunity to return to the WPL and demonstrate her abilities on a prominent platform.

From Delhi to Mumbai, an impressive journey of the star pacer
Norris first made headlines during the inaugural WPL season while representing Delhi Capitals in 2023. She etched her name into the competition’s history by becoming the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in the tournament. The milestone came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 5, 2023, when she returned remarkable figures of 5/29 from four overs. Her performance played a crucial role in Delhi Capitals’ convincing 60-run victory after the team posted an imposing 223/2.
Norris dismantled the opposition’s batting order by dismissing Ellyse Perry, Disha Kasat, Richa Ghosh, Kanika Ahuja and Heather Knight. The five-wicket burst earned her the Player of the Match award and established her as one of the standout performers of the opening WPL season. She finished that campaign with seven wickets from five matches, recording an economy rate of 8.09. Her performances demonstrated her ability to make an impact against established international players.
Notably, Norris’ connection with the WPL began even before the first ball of the competition was bowled. At the inaugural auction, she became the first player from an Associate nation to be selected by a franchise, marking an important moment for cricketers from emerging cricketing countries. After her stint with Delhi Capitals, Norris did not feature in the franchise’s subsequent squads. UP Warriorz eventually acquired her at the 2026 auction for her base price of INR 10 lakh, although international commitments prevented her from taking the field that season. Now, Mumbai Indians have handed the American pacer another chance to compete in the league.
