The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) might have won the thrilling Super Over against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 26, but their young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi has faced strict punishment for his behavior during this IPL 2026 clash.
The Indian Premier League announced the actions against Raghuvanshi on Monday, April 27. The incident took place in the 5th over of the LSG vs KKR IPL 2026 match in Lucknow.
How Angkrish Raghuvanshi violates IPL rule during LSG vs KKR clash
Actually, Angkrish Raghuvanshi gently pushed a Prince Yadav delivery towards the mid-on area and decided to take a single. However, his batting partner Cameron Green suddenly sent him back, forcing Raghuvanshi to turn around midway and rush back to his crease.
As the youngster dived to save himself, an LSG fielder threw the ball towards the wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant in an attempt to run him out, but the ball hit Raghuvanshi on his legs. This prompted Mohammed Shami and captain Pant to appeal, claiming that the KKR batter had deliberately come in the way of the throw.
After reviewing the replay, the third umpire found out that Raghuvanshi had intentionally changed his running path and blocked the ball, which falls under the rule of “obstructing the field,” leading to his dismissal. The decision shocked the entire KKR camp, and Raghuvanshi reacted angrily.
After arguing with the umpires, he hit the boundary cushion hard with his bat. Even he also threw his helmet aggressively towards the dugout. On the other hand, KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar was also seen having a heated argument with the match officials.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi punished heavily for on-field behavior during IPL 2026
With this aggressive behavior, Angkrish Raghuvanshi has breached Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.”
As a result, Raghuvanshi has been fined 20% of his match fees and also given one demerit point for damaging the equipment and showing excessive aggression on the field.
The IPL confirmed in a media release: “Angkrish Raghuvanshi, batter & wicket-keeper, Kolkata Knight Riders, has been fined 20% of his match fee and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials during Match No. 38 against Lucknow Super Giants. Raghuvanshi admitted to the offense and accepted the match referee’s sanction.”
‘A harsh call’: Ex-India cricketers
Meanwhile, Raghuvanshi’s controversial obstructing-the-field dismissal has sparked a massive debate among the former cricketers. Rohan Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag felt this was against the “spirit of the game”.
Rohan Gavaskar said as quoted by Times of India: “I think it’s not out because when the ball came and the batter dived, he was not looking at the ball. He was looking to make that dive. If he was looking at the ball, then he wouldn’t have dived… it was unintentional. So, I would think that it was not out.”
On the other hand, Virender Sehwag opined, “When you are winning… you can let go… but since Lucknow were not winning… they appealed and as per law, it is a correct appeal. But… in spirit of the game, they should not have done it… it was indeed a harsh call.”
