Head was not selected for Pakistan due to his commitments in the IPL playoffs with Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was named in both the ODI and T20I squads for Bangladesh but he will instead rest from both series with the selectors conscious of his workload as Australia’s three-format opener over the next 12 months. A replacement for him in the T20I squad has yet to be named.
“Travis was initially selected in the ODI and T20I legs of this Bangladesh tour but has subsequently been granted personal leave for both,” national selector Tony Dodemaide said. “We look forward to seeing him again for the top end Test series against Bangladesh.”
Marsh had been a late withdrawal from the Pakistan series due to an ankle flare up he suffered in the IPL. It was hoped he would be fit for the entire six-match Bangladesh tour where he was due to captain Australia in both formats, but will now aim to be fit for the T20Is which begin on June 17.
Short and Peake were both initially only selected for the Pakistan ODI portion of the tour but produced handy performances in that series, particularly in the second match which Australia won. Peake became the youngest specialist batter to debut for Australia in ODIs.
“We were hopeful Mitch Marsh would be available for the Bangladesh ODI series however he is still returning to full fitness from an ankle injury,” Dodemaide said. “Mitch will join the group in Dhaka and begin preparations for the T20I series.
“We’re excited to welcome Todd Murphy into the ODI squad for the first time, while it made sense for Ollie Peake and Matt Short to stay with the group following the Pakistan tour.”
Murphy, who has played seven Tests, returned to Cricket Australia’s contract list earlier this year having been recalled during the Ashes although was unable to find a place in the XI.
