Tara Sinchuri, a Bhutanese man, was found dead inside his jewelry store along Dixie Highway in Fairfield, Ohio, in what cops believe was a robbery attempt. The incident took place on Tuesday as the Hindu Bhutanese-Nepalese community was preparing for Vijayadashami. No suspect has been arrested even four days after the broad daylight shooting.Sinchuri was widely known in his community. Tara Dahal, a friend, said he had a great contribution towards the Bhutanese community in Cincinnati. “He is very social, very helpful, and I have known him for several years back from Nepal. We were neighbors in Nepal also, so he is a very kind-hearted man. He used to help us in the community in various community events. He had donated. So he has a great contribution to the Bhutanese community here in Cincinnati,” Dahal said, adding that this was probably the first time some one from their community had been shot and killed in an incident like this.Dahal said to local television channel WCPO 9 News that the incident scared other immigrant business owners in the area. “People come to the U.S. to make their life, make their dream true… I was talking with some of the owners here, business owners nearby… They were very scared. They are very afraid,” Dahal said.On Friday, friends and family members gathered outside the jewelry store for a vigil where the community leader was fondly remembered.“Not only just in Ohio but in the entire United States, he has been an influence on our community. He has provided for those in need,” Tara Sinchuri’s nephew Anish Sinchuri said. “What has happened to him is gruesome. It is crazy. It’s absolutely shocking for our family, our entire family,” he said. The family has set up a fundraiser on GoFundMe to pay for his funeral and other related expenses.“He born in Bhutan in 1974. Immigrated to the United States in 2009. He was raising a beautiful family in Fairfield Township: one son, two daughters, and his caring wife. He was an active community member, philanthropist, and public speaker. He also holds board membership on several community- and religious-based nonprofit organizations. He was truly a role model to Bhutanese Nepali immigrant communities in the United States,” the fundraiser said.
