Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have finally got some relief and something to smile about in the ongoing TATA Indian Premier League (TATA IPL 2026). After a disappointing start to the season, CSK are slowly getting back into form, and now a fresh boost has arrived at just the right time.
The five-time IPL champions have won two of their last three games before facing a big setback in the form of Ayush Mhatre. The young batting sensation is ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing season with a hamstring injury that he sustained while batting against SRH on April 18.
Spencer Johnson ready to roar for CSK in IPL 2026
However, following this setback, the Chennai Super Kings camp has received a massive boost ahead of their crucial IPL 2026 match against the Mumbai Indians on April 23 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
In a massive boost, Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson has officially joined the Chennai Super Kings squad. The left-arm pacer has come in as a replacement for injured Nathan Ellis, and his arrival could change things for CSK in the coming matches.
Johnson missed the team’s first six matches due to a back injury and was working on his fitness back in Australia. But now, he has reached Chennai and is ready to play. Johnson confirmed his arrival through an Instagram story as he visited 7Padel in Chennai, which is owned by MS Dhoni.

Spencer Johnson arrives, MS Dhoni likely to return against MI amid CSK crisis
The timing of the Australian fast bowler’s arrival is perfect because CSK are already dealing with injuries. Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out, and young batter Mhatre is also sidelined. With so many issues in the squad, Johnson’s entry brings some much-needed balance.
His pace, bounce, and left-arm angle can be very useful, especially on a pitch like Wankhede Stadium, where fast bowlers can get help. If Johnson gets a chance and clicks, he can be a big weapon for the franchise in their upcoming crucial match against the Mumbai Indians.
In another positive update, MS Dhoni travelled with the Chennai Super Kings squad to Mumbai and is highly likely to play his first match of this season on April 23. However, it remains to be seen whether he plays as an impact player.

KL Rahul set to break MS Dhoni’s massive record
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals batter KL Rahul is all set to break the Chennai Super Kings icon Dhoni’s massive record in the IPL on Tuesday, April 21. The right-handed batter needs only 50 more runs to go past Dhoni and become the sixth-highest run-scorer in IPL history.
He can achieve this feat during DC’s IPL 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Rahul is coming into this game after his match-winning knock against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
So far, Rahul has scored 5,390 runs in the IPL, while Dhoni has 5,439 runs to his name in the league. RCB icon Virat Kohli is still leading the chart with over 8,900 runs. The CSK legend missed the first six games; otherwise, the gap must be wider for Rahul to surpass the former Indian captain.
