Can DC still reach playoffs after loss against CSK?

In match no.48, the Delhi Capitals (DC) hosted the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. It was a dominating win by the Men in Yellow at their home ground making a double win this season, as CSK won by 8 wickets and kept their hopes alive for the playoffs.

Axar Patel won the toss and opted to bat first, Lungi Ngidi coming back, replacing Kyle Jamieson in the side. For the Men in Yellow, it was two changes as Gurjapneet Singh came back alongside Akeal Hosein, as Ramakrishna Ghosh was ruled out after a foot fracture during the CSK vs MI clash.

DC qualification scenario explained

Delhi Capitals, after this loss, have fallen to the 7th position with 8 points from 10 games. From now on, the equation is simple for Axar Patel’s side: they have to win every remaining game to keep their playoff-qualifying hopes alive. Axar Patel and his side need to work on their batting, as it has let down the team this season.

The Delhi Capitals have four vital playoff games remaining. They meet the Kolkata Knight Riders twice, which might be season-defining clashes, especially given that KKR is also fighting for a top 4 spot. They have two games against the top 3 Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings, which might be a season-defining clash for the playoff race.

The spinners of CSK, Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad, created a web amongst the batters and did not let the batters score easily. Due to this, the wickets kept on tumbling as they were reduced to 69/5, and from there Tristan Stubbs and impact player Sameer Rizvi stitched a 63 runs partnership, helping DC to score 155/7 in their 20 overs.

Sanju Samson shines against DC

While chasing it, Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad had a difficult start, with the latter being dismissed on a low score of 6 runs. Then Urvil Patel played a small knock of 17 runs off 9 balls. But since then, Sanju Samson and Kartik Sharma made a 104-run partnership between them while chasing 156 runs.

Sanju Samson showed his experience and class on a dry and sticky wicket, where he played a knock of 87 runs and remained unbeaten towards the end, and Kartik Sharma also showed amazing composure and remained unbeaten in yet another match, as he scored 41*.

After the match, Kartik Sharma said, “Yes, sir, it was fun. We had a good partnership for a long time. (on the pitch) Yes, sir, it was helping the spinners, stopping the ball and turning a lot. I knew it was not a big score, and we can take our time, which we did.”
