Andhra Pradesh Home Minister V. Anitha has said that CCTV cameras will be installed at all schools and colleges to ensure the safety of the students.
“The issue was discussed during the Group of Ministers meeting held recently. The decision to install CCTV Cameras in educational institutions has been taken to control eve-teasers and other anti-social elements,” Ms. Anitha said and asked the private school and college managements to install CCTV cameras on their premises.
Participating in a review meeting with Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) IGP Ake Ravi Krishna and officers at its office in Mangalagiri on Friday, the Home Minister appreciated the efforts of EAGLE police in controlling ganja cultivation and trade.
“EAGLE officers identified 900 hotspots, set up 70 checkposts and 60 de-addiction centres in Andhra Pradesh. As many as 140 drug addicts have been provided treatment at de-addiction centres,” she said.
Task force teams have been deployed in Visakhapatnam, Rajamahendravaram and Vijayawada, and Eagle Cells have been set up in all districts, she said.
“EAGLE police have registered 1,039 cases, seized 23,294 kgs of ganja and arrested 2,720 persons involved in ganja peddling and consumption this year till September 15,” Ms. Anitha said.
Besides, ganja MDMA, hashish oil, liquid ganja, ephedrine, ganja chocolates, Tapentadol tablets and Tramadex injections were seized, she said.
EAGLE Clubs
Mr. Ravi Krishna said that an application would be launched soon to involve the public in checking ganja and drug meance.
“We have formed 40,000 Eagle Clubs and created awareness among 4 lakh students in educational institutions. Public can alert EAGLE officers about ganja or drugs smuggling or consumption by dialling 1972,” the IGP said.
Later, the Home Minister distributed trophies and certificates to the EAGLE officers who won prizes in the Andhra Pradesh State Police Sports and Games Meet held recently.
EAGLE Superintendents of Police K.M. Maheswara Raju and G. Swaroopa Rani, Deputy SPs Trinadh and Singaiah, and other officers were present.
