Chand Mera Dil, the romantic drama starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya, opened on Friday to a quiet reception at the box office. According to Sacnilk, the film collected a net of Rs 2.90 crore on its first day across 4,944 shows, bringing its total India gross to Rs 3.39 crore.
The film’s collections are slightly lower than Pati Patni Aur Voh Do, which recently released and earned Rs 4 crore on the first day. But, it is to be noted that while Pati Patni Aur Voh Do was promoted extensively, Chand Mera Dil was not promoted at all.
Ananya Panday’s opening day record
To understand where Rs 2.90 crore sits in Ananya’s career, it helps to look at how her films have performed previously. Her last theatrical release, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, also starring Kartik Aaryan, earned Rs 7.75 crore on opening day. Kesari Chapter 2, in which she starred alongside Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan, opened to Rs 7.76 crore net on Day 1 and went on to earn Rs 145 crore worldwide. Dream Girl 2 in 2023, in which she starred opposite Ayushmann Khurrana, earned Rs 10.69 crore on opening day.

The Saiyaara strategy that did not translate
The release plan for Chand Mera Dil was modelled on last year’s breakout romance Saiyaara, the Mohit Suri-directed film starring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, which opened to Rs 21.5 crore on Day 1 without any offline promotions and went on to earn over Rs 388 crore in India.
The makers of Chand Mera Dil followed the same playbook. To drive footfalls, Dharma Productions offered tickets at Rs 149 for shows before 5 PM on opening day, targeting the college-going youth audience the film is built around.
However, the strategy did not produce the same result.
The film is produced by Dharma Productions under Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Adar Poonawalla, Somen Mishra, and Marijke deSouza. Lakshya, who plays the male lead, was previously seen in the 2024 action film Kill, which opened to Rs 1.25 crore on Day 1. Chand Mera Dil is both actors’ first collaboration.
