A total of 26 buildings have collapsed in Cali the city’s mayor, Alejando Eder, said on Monday at about 12:30 pm local time. Ten have become the scenes of rescue operations, he added. The mayor, speaking in a video posted on X, said that while the city had more than 60 rescue workers at these sites, he believed it needed six more rescue teams, and that he had requested help from other major cities.
“To all the people of Cali: solidarity,” he said, calling on people to stay out of the streets so they could be clear for emergency workers. He asked for donations of helmets, construction gloves, water and safety goggles, directing people to leave these items at a local plaza. Separately, the city announced that at least seven health clinics had been evacuated and were closed because of the quake.
