St Kitts and Nevis Patriots produced a dominant performance to keep their playoff hopes alive in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026, securing a massive win over St Lucia Kings. The Patriots were asked to bat first after the Kings won the toss, but a strong finish with the bat put them in complete control of the contest.
The Patriots posted 235/4 from their 20 overs before their bowlers completed the job in the second innings. While several batters contributed to the huge total, one innings stood out as the defining moment of the match.
Dasun Shanaka creates CPL history with stunning century
Dasun Shanaka smashed the fastest century in CPL history as he produced a remarkable late assault for the Patriots. The all-rounder arrived at the crease in the tenth over with the score on 89/2 and quickly turned the game on its head. Shanaka began his assault with consecutive sixes against Roston Chase before taking on the Kings’ other bowlers. He brought up his half-century from just 24 balls and continued to attack as the Patriots looked to maximise the final overs.
His most destructive passage came in the final over when he smashed Keon Gaston for four sixes and a four, producing a 28-run over. Shanaka reached his century from only 39 balls, setting a new CPL record for the fastest hundred. He finished unbeaten on 121 from 43 deliveries, with eight fours and 12 sixes. He also shared a stunning 93-run partnership with Wanindu Hasaranga from just 31 balls as the Patriots scored 93 runs in their final five overs.
St Lucia Kings crumble after Patriots post a mammoth total
The Kings’ chase never gathered momentum after Kamil Pooran was dismissed for a duck in the opening over. Hasaranga then struck twice as the Kings slipped to 55/4, leaving them with a huge task. Jeremiah Louis added to their problems by removing Chase and Matthew Forde with consecutive deliveries.
Tim Seifert offered some resistance with a 36-ball fifty, but the Kings had little support around him. Louis eventually claimed five of the final six wickets to complete his maiden T20 five-wicket haul, while the Kings were bowled out for 98. The 137-run victory lifted the Patriots’ net run rate from -0.547 to 0.593 and kept their playoff hopes alive.
