DC provide official update on South Africa pacer ahead CSK clash

Good news for the Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of their next IPL 2026 fixture against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 5 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Ahead of the match, it is reported that DC’s frontline pacer Lungi Ngidi is fit and available for tomorrow’s IPL 2026 match against the Chennai Super Kings.

Lungi Ngidi’s ability will be a huge boost for the Delhi Capitals, as the South African pacer has been one of their mainstays in the ongoing IPL 2026 season. Ngidi missed a couple of matches because of the head injury he received during DC’s match against the Punjab Kings on April 25.

Lungi Ngidi missed a couple of IPL 2026 matches because of a head injury

Lungi Ngidi suffered a serious head injury on April 25, 2026, during an IPL match against Punjab Kings while attempting a catch. During the landing, his head hit the ground hard. Because of the seriousness of the injury, he quickly took off to the hospital. Later, he was discharged and confirmed to be stable, and has returned to training.

Just over an hour after he was stretchered off, the IPL tweet said Ngidi was “stable” and was “due to be discharged shortly from the hospital.” It will be a huge relief for the Delhi Capitals fans as well as the cricket fans if he walks into the ground to announce his comeback in the IPL 2026.

Lungi Ngidi was provided a mandatory break

It is reported that Lungi Ngidi was provided a precautionary rest period of six days to recover from the threatening injury. The rest period of six days was a part of the concussion protocol. As the period is over, without any further trouble, he is clear to play again for the Delhi Capitals in the ongoing Indian Premier League campaign. If things go according to plan, then the pacer can feature against the Chennai Super Kings for the 48th match of IPL 2026.

Before the injury, the 30-year-old was in decent form for the franchise. In seven matches and 6 innings, the seamer claimed 7 wickets with an economy rate of 8.70 and with a best bowling figure of 3/17, which he claimed during the DC vs LSG match on April 1.

A must-win game for DC and CSK

The DC vs CSK match is equally important for both of the teams as both of the sides are in contention for the play-offs. With 3 wins in the last 5 games, CSK is currently ranked 6th, one step ahead of DC, in the points table.

The Capitals are in the 7th spot with 8 points from 9 games, the same as the CSK. Because of a better run rate, CSK is ahead of the Delhi Capitals. While the Super Kings have got three wins in 5 games, the DC has suffered three defeats in their last 5 fixtures.
