They Showed A Lot Of Character – Suryakumar Yadav
During the post-match presentation, Suryakumar Yadav praised his bowling unit for regaining control in the middle overs. The stand-in captain said that despite LSG dominating the powerplay, the MI bowlers showed strong character and executed clear plans to restrict the scoring rate.
“To be very frank, we’ve been in this situation a lot of times this season. It was nothing new, to be very honest. But then I knew, T20 cricket after the powerplay from 7 to 10, that’s the best time when you can pull the game off. We knew two wickets here and there, and I can take control of the game. And the way all the bowlers responded, I think they showed a lot of character.”
“I don’t really remember. But then from there, pulling it to 162 for 5 in 16 overs, I think the performance was unbelievable. Everyone had that belief, they had their clear plans. I didn’t tell them anything. It was just little, little backing involved in few situations. But then at the end of the day, the way they displayed their character and the way they bowled, I think commendable.”
Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton Guide Mumbai Indians To One Of Their Biggest Wins
Rohit Sharma made a strong return from injury, scoring 84 runs off 44 balls, while Ryan Rickelton added 83 off 32 deliveries. The opening pair added 143 runs for the first wicket, setting up the chase, before Naman Dhir and the middle order finished the job to seal a six-wicket win.
Following the victory, the Mumbai Indians are still in ninth place on the points table. The five-time champions have lost seven of their first ten matches. They have six points with a net run rate (NRR) of -0.649, leaving them with slim playoff hopes.
Lucknow Super Giants have now suffered their sixth straight defeat after this loss to the Mumbai Indians. They remain at the bottom of the table with just four points. Aiden Markram scored an unbeaten 31, and Himmat Singh added 40 not out.
