EXCLUSIVE: Taha Shah Badussha Comments On Indians’ Obsession With The Academy Awards As Paro Makes It To The 2026 Oscars Eligibility List; States, “It’s A Global Stage”

Taha Shah Badussha, popularly known for his role as Tajdar in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024), is in the public eye now for his Oscar eligible film Paro: The Untold Story of Bride Slavery. During an exclusive telephonic conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Taha opened up about the Gajendra Vitthal Ahire-directed film receiving global recognition and appreciation.

During the same conversation, he also got candid about the Academy Awards and Indians being obsessed with film going to the Oscars. Read on to know all he said.

Taha Shah Badussha On Indians & Their Obsession With The Oscars

After congratulating Taha Shah Badussha on Paro receiving international recognition and making it to the eligibility list of the 2026 Oscars, we asked him about Indians’ obsession with the Oscars despite us having our own award shows, including the National Awards. Talking about this ‘obsession,’ Taha Shah said, “I don’t think it’s about Indians. We can not compartmentalise this thought. I believe it is a global thought. Oscars is seemed to be the highest point of achievement for anybody who wants to go global.”

Adding to this statement, he said, “When I did a project, like let’s say Heeramandi, then I am not looking to take that to the Oscars. I’m looking to take that to the biggest award (show in India), which is Filmfare.”

Talking about the Oscars being compared to Indian award shows, Taha Shah Badussha added, “It’s a global stage. People across the globe are trying to get one award. It is quite a big fight. Indian award shows are equally great. It is equally giving all of us opportunities. It depends on the films where you’re targeting it.”

During the same conversation, Taha also got made it clear that Paro “is not a commercial Hindi film (but) a socially structured one.”

Directed by Gajendra Vitthal Ahire, Paro is an impactful film exploring the harsh reality of bride trafficking in India. It focuses on the forced marriage revolving around a woman named Chand.
