Baroda batter Priyanshu Moliya produced a historic performance in the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season, smashing an unbeaten triple century against Jammu & Kashmir at the Reliance Cricket Stadium in Vadodara. The 21-year-old right-hander anchored Baroda’s mammoth first-innings total of 616 runs, rewriting the state record for the highest individual first-class score in the process. His remarkable knock put him among the biggest talking points in Indian domestic cricket.
While Moliya provided the foundation for Baroda’s massive total, Mahesh Pithiya made a crucial contribution with a century of his own. His innings helped the hosts push past the 600-run mark before being bowled out for 616 in 169 overs. Jammu & Kashmir’s bowling attack struggled to contain Baroda’s batters, with Sahil Lotra emerging as the leading wicket-taker with four scalps, although he conceded 160 runs.
Priyanshu Moliya breaks 79-year-old Baroda record with 321
Moliya walked in at number four with Baroda struggling at 49/2 and went on to produce a marathon innings of 321 not out off 492 deliveries. He struck 31 boundaries and three sixes, displaying remarkable patience and composure over nearly two days at the crease. The young batter crossed the double-century mark on Day 1 before continuing his innings into the following day.
His unbeaten 321 surpassed the previous Baroda record of 319, set by Gul Mohammad against Holkar in January 1947. The 79-year-old record had stood for nearly eight decades before Moliya finally moved past it. The milestone also placed Moliya among India’s youngest triple-centurions in first-class cricket. At 21 years and 132 days, he became the seventh-youngest Indian batter to score a first-class triple century, joining an elite group that includes Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.
Baroda close in on a massive first-innings lead
Jammu & Kashmir found themselves under pressure in response to Baroda’s imposing total. Atit Sheth led the home side’s bowling attack, claiming four wickets for 61 runs as the visitors slipped to 170/7. Opener Qamran Iqbal offered resistance with a fighting 121 off 193 deliveries, including 11 fours and five sixes.
Umar Nazir Mir also contributed a valuable 55 off 81 balls, helping Jammu & Kashmir recover from their collapse. Jammu & Kashmir reached 303/9 after 77 overs on Day 3 but still trailed by 313 runs. With just one wicket remaining in their first innings, Baroda remained firmly in control after Moliya’s record-breaking triple century.

A lot of people weren’t happy with Priyanshu Moliya during the 2024 U-19 World Cup, but he was playing out of position, not in his ideal role.
A top-order batter was batting at No. 7 and it was not Moliya’s fault.
Happy to see him score a triple century against J & K.
