The Penamaluru police of Krishna district arrested a five-member gang on Saturday for allegedly creating fake registration documents for vacant lands and selling them without the knowledge of the original owners.
The gang targeted senior citizens, bedridden patients and NRIs, and sold valuable properties, Gannavaram Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kosuri Dharmendra said.
Acting on a complaint lodged by a victim, a team led by Penamaluru Circle Inspector N. Venkata Narayana and Sub-Inspectors Sandeep and Sudhakar arrested the accused and seized duplicate documents relating to a parcel of land at Kanuru village.
The arrested were M. Adireddy, M. Venkata Ramana Phani Kumar, U. Sambasiva Udaya Bhaskar, R. Shiva Anjaneyulu alias RMP Shiva and K. Amaleswara Rao, natives of NTR and Krishna districts, the DSP said.
The accused allegedly created fake death certificates for the landowner and his wife and registered the property in the name of Adireddy, who was also a member of the gang. They also produced a woman as the daughter of the couple, while their actual daughter was living abroad, Mr. Dharmendra said.
The gang’s modus operandi was to identify vacant plots that had remained unused for a long time and create fake documents to facilitate their sale, the Circle Inspector said. More persons were likely to be arrested in connection with the case, he added.
Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu appreciated the Penamaluru police for apprehending the gang and advised the public to monitor their properties regularly.
