Food safety officials have found violations ranging from non-compliant labelling and misbranding to unhygienic handling and storage conditions at a quick commerce platform’s warehouse in Bengaluru Rural and three Indira Canteens in Bengaluru Urban. The warehouse and the storage facility at one of the canteens were sealed following inspections.
The Food Safety division of the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department conducted separate special inspection drives at the warehouse in Hoskote taluk, Bengaluru Rural district, and at the main kitchens and food preparation units of the Indira Canteens at Gottigere, Lingarajapuram and Singasandra.
Officials inspected food quality, storage, labelling and handling practices at the establishments under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the relevant regulations.
Warehouse sealed
At the warehouse, officials found non-compliant labelling, misbranding and unhygienic food handling and storage conditions, besides other violations of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) requirements.
Citing the unhygienic handling and storage conditions, officials sealed the warehouse in accordance with applicable FSSAI provisions.
Indira Canteens face action
At the three Indira canteens in Bengaluru Urban, officials found non-compliant labelling, misbranding and unhygienic food handling conditions, apart from other violations of FSSAI requirements.
The warehouse at the Gottigere Indira Canteen was sealed following the inspection, citing unhygienic food handling and storage conditions.
Notices were issued to the food business operators of all three establishments and the department has recommended filing cases before the respective Adjudicating Officers.
Officials also collected samples of pulses, turmeric powder, cooking oil, jaggery, salt, sugar and prepared food items from the Indira Canteens. The samples have been sent to designated food laboratories for analysis to assess their quality and compliance with prescribed food safety standards.
