At the end of the group stage of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), the Mumbai Indians have to make a couple of forced signings because of multiple injury setbacks.
In place of the injured Quinton de Kock and Raj Angad Bawa, MI has added Mahipal Lomror and Saurashtra’s Ruchit Ahir as the replacements. According to a Cricbuzz post, Lomror joins the team for a sum of INR 50 lakh, while Ahir has been signed for INR 30 lakh.

MI is already out of the IPL 2026 title race
Meanwhile, Mumbai has already been knocked out of the title race and has only one match to play before packing all the luggage. Mumbai’s final group match will be tomorrow, on May 24, against the Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium.
Currently, the Hardik Pandya-led side is ranked 9th in the 10-team league with only 8 points from 13 matches and a net run rate of -0.510. So far, they have secured only 4 wins against 9 defeats. Only the Lucknow Super Giants are behind them because of the net run rate.
Nature of the injuries
Quinton de Kock was officially ruled out of the remainder of the 2026 IPL season due to a tendon injury in his left wrist, while Raj Bawa suffered a ligament tear in his right thumb during a match for the Mumbai Indians against the Punjab Kings. Because of the injury, he has been ruled out for the entire season. Quinton de Kock received his wrist injury before Mumbai’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 29.
“Both Quinton and Raj Bawa will continue their rehab in their respective homes, with support and guidance from the Mumbai Indians medical team to help them return to play as soon as possible. Mumbai Indians wishes them a quick recovery, and will announce replacements as per IPL guidelines,” the franchise said in a statement on Tuesday.
Interestingly, both Raj Bawa and Quinton de Kock played only three games each in this IPL season. In these three matches, the veteran keeper-batter from South Africa smashed a century: Unbeaten 112 against the Punjab Kings on May 14. In his next two games, the opener got only 13 and 7.
Like Quinton de Kock, who is a wicketkeeper-batter, one of the new signings, Ruchit Ahir, is also a keeper-batter and has impressed in domestic cricket tournaments. Earlier this year, during the DY Patil T20 Cup, his performance was impressive for the Reliance side.
Official press release about the replacements
“Lomror, an experienced batting all-rounder, has played 40 IPL matches and has previously represented Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He was also with the Delhi Capitals and the Gujarat Titans, but did not get a game. He joins the Mumbai Indians for INR 50 Lakh. Ruchit, 25, has played 16 List A and 12 T20 matches for Saurashtra and joins the Mumbai Indians for INR 30 Lakh,” according to an official press release on the IPL website.
